DHARAVI CASE Cops want stepmoms bail revoked

Mumbai: The Dharavi police will forward a request to the court on Monday to revoke the bail granted to the stepmother of a seven-yearold girl, who was reportedly branded with hot spoons and assaulted with wooden sticks for two months.Meanwhile, the police are taking the help of doctors at Sion hospital to counsel the girl who is still in a state of shock.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Dhananjay Kulkarni said in view of the grievous injuries inflicted on the girl,it has been decided to add more sections in the FIR against the stepmother,Aarti Thakur (24),who was arrested last Wednesday and was released on bail the next day.
Initially,Aarti was booked under Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the IPC and under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Aarti will also be booked under Section 326 (causes grievous hurt by means of any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting,or any instrument which, used as a weapon of offence,is likely to cause death,or by means of fire or any heated substance). The section has been added and the request will be made before the court on Monday to take custody of the accused again for further inquiry, said Kulkarni.
He said the girls father Sujit claimed that his daughter had complained about the torture a few times but he did not pay heed to it.Sujit said he leaves the house in the morning for work and returns late.He did not take the matter seriously until the neighbours lodged the police complaint and got his wife arrested.Aarti would brand the girl with hot spoons after gagging her, he said.
The police are also waiting for the girls grandparents to arrive in Mumbai from Bihar.
